چکیده

Abstract The use of magnesium and its alloys as temporary implants has gained interest in the last two decades due to their good mechanical properties bio-degradability in-vivo conditions. However, issues higher corrosion rate stress cracking persist, which are responsible for implants’ early failure. This review paper focuses on challenges involved magnesium-based advancements mitigating corrosion-related biodegradable alloy implants. Herein we degradation behavior three groups alloys, i.e., aluminum-containing Mg alloy, rare earth element (REE) containing aluminum-free a variety testing media. We also various surface modification techniques such methods, physical chemical methods adopted address shortcomings alloys. Furthermore, recent developments based bioimplants Mg-based open porous scaffolds, nanostructured bulk metallic glasses reviewed. In end, clinical trials implant were reported detail.

Tarnish Resistance, Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking of Gold Alloys

Tarnishing, corrosion and stress corrosion cracking (SeC) of gold alloys are related phenomena. They present problems when they occur in gold jewellery, dental gold alloys and electronic devices. They are exploited, however, in the depletion gilding and finishing of gold jewellery; and in the extraction, refining and fire assaying of gold. There is still much that is not known about these pheno...

Effect of Hydrogen on Corrosion and Stress Corrosion Cracking of AZ91 Alloy in Aqueous Solutions

The effect of hydrogen on the corrosion and stress corrosion cracking of the magnesium AZ91 alloy has been investigated in aqueous solutions. Hydrogen produced by corrosion in water diffuses into, and reacts with the Mg matrix to form hydride. Some of the hydrogen accumulates at hydride/Mg matrix (or secondary phase) interfaces as a consequence of slow hydride formation and the incompatibility ...

Mitigation of Corrosion on Magnesium Alloy by Predesigned Surface Corrosion

Rapid corrosion of magnesium alloys is undesirable in structural and biomedical applications and a general way to control corrosion is to form a surface barrier layer isolating the bulk materials from the external environment. Herein, based on the insights gained from the anticorrosion behavior of corrosion products, a special way to mitigate aqueous corrosion is described. The concept is based...

Corrosion Product Film-Induced Stress Facilitates Stress Corrosion Cracking

Finite element analyses were conducted to clarify the role of corrosion product films (CPFs) in stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Flat and U-shaped edge-notched specimens were investigated in terms of the CPF-induced stress in the metallic substrate and the stress in the CPF. For a U-shaped edge-notched specimen, the stress field in front of the notch tip is affected by the Young's modulus of th...
